The Business Council of Fairfield County Partners with The WorkPlace, Inc. to Launch the Career Development Network for Dislocated Financial Services Workers
Stamford, Connecticut; January 19, 2010 – The Business Council of Fairfield County and The WorkPlace, Inc. have formed a collaboration to assist individuals who have lost their jobs from over 40 financial services firms in the tri-state area. (More details on the designated firms are available at http://www.workplace.org/docs/NEGList.pdf)
Funded by a U.S. Department of Labor National Emergency Grant, the Career Development Network will provide eligible participants with career development coaching and training, networking opportunities and unique information resources to assist them in their job search. The services are an extension of those already being provided by The WorkPlace and the Connecticut Department of Labor’s One Stop system.
The Business Council also has compiled a list of job search resources and local career networking groups on their website, www.BusinessFairfield.com. Designed to offer a full range of job search services conveniently in one location, job searchers can tap into the events and services offered throughout the Fairfield County region.
“As the region’s workforce board, we work to keep Connecticut workers working, said Michael Morgan, Program Manager, The WorkPlace, Inc. “We are very pleased the National Emergency Grant has allowed us to provide career search services to those directly impacted in the financial services sector.”
With bi-monthly events planned over the next 6 months, eligible participants will have opportunities to network with regional business association members, receive coaching from career development professionals and information on job opportunities available in the region.
“Locally, almost 1 out of every 10 jobs is in the financial services sector, not to mention the thousands of Fairfield County residents working in the industry outside of Connecticut,” commented Christopher P. Bruhl, President & CEO, The Business Council of Fairfield County. “The Career Development Network brings the business community into the effort to provide high value networking activities as well as peer and professional support to those that have been impacted in this industry so that they can get back to work quickly. We need their talents and want to get them reengaged as quickly as possible.”
