Members Part of $130,000 Rebuild America Grant

Stamford, Connecticut; January 10, 2005 - - Based upon the benchmarking of 10 million square feet of Fairfield County office space by members of The Business Council of Fairfield County and the EPA, the state of Connecticut was awarded a $130,000 Rebuild America grant from the U.S. Department of Energy in December.

The SmartEnergy initiative started as a pilot project in early 2003 with several members working with Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating to benchmark the energy efficiency of their buildings against national standards.

Working off the successes of the initial work, the grant has been awarded to the State to continue to optimize energy usage of Fairfield County office buildings and to help partnerships implement community-wide energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements.

"Our goal is to make Fairfield County, and the state, one of the most energy efficient communities in the U.S.," stated Joe McGee, Vice President, Public Policy and Programs of The Business Council of Fairfield County. "This grant will allow us to replicate the findings in southwestern Connecticut to other parts of the state."

The Business Council of Fairfield County is a member-driven organization, providing a wide range of services including legislative advocacy, economic development initiatives, networking programs, leadership training and more.
