Stamford, Connecticut; April 14, 2008 - - The Business Council of Fairfield County will produce a series of Personal Preparedness Fairs designed to educate employees about what they can do to protect themselves and their families in case of an emergency. The service has been made possible with the generous assistance of UBS.
The Fairs will be held in office locations in Stamford, Norwalk, Danbury and Westport and will feature informational booths and safety information. They will typically be held during the lunch hour (e.g. 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) near on-site cafeterias to encourage participation. Representatives from EMS, public safety, hospitals, educational institutions, and agencies providing crisis response services will participate. Employees attending will:
Learn simple yet important steps to take to prepare for the next emergency;
Be able to purchase emergency supplies and preparedness kits;
Darrell Harvey, The Business Council’s board chair, and Co-CEO, The Ashforth Company, thanked UBS for its financial support and commented, “We are fortunate to have a company as engaged and responsible as UBS in this community. Its support for these Fairs will make thousands of people safer and help them feel more secure.”
“Emergency preparedness is everyone’s responsibility,” said Teresa Ressel, CEO, UBS Securities and Chief Operating Officer, The Americas, UBS Investment Bank. “We at UBS are delighted to help The Business Council make this resource available to so many people in our region.”
Tanya Court, The Business Council’s manager of emergency readiness programs, explained, “An employer’s business continuity plan hinges on their employees having a personal emergency plan. A Personal Preparedness Fair is one way to help educate employees about what they can do to be ready to deal with a wide range of possible events.”
The first Fair was held at High Ridge Park, Stamford, on March 18. Five more Personal Preparedness Fairs have been scheduled in Danbury, Westport, Norwalk, and Stamford.
