Sexual Harassment Awareness & Prevention Training

Training Employer Compliance with Public Act 92-85:
Newly hired, promoted, or arrived supervisors must receive sexual harassment awareness and prevention training within 6 months of new status.

Compliance Assistance: The Business Council of Fairfield County offers training to newly hired and recently promoted supervisors, three
times a year. The training fulfills the requirements set forth by the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities. All sessions are taught by volunteer attorneys from Business Council member law firms. Employers receive written certification of the employee’s completion of required training.

Background: In May, 1992, Governor Lowell C. Weicker, Jr. signed into law Public Act 92-85, requiring employers with more than 50 employees to provide to all supervisory employees at least two hours of training and education on the state and federal laws prohibiting sexual harassment and the remedies available to victims. Companies were required to provide this training by October 1, 1993, and must
continuously train new and newly arrived supervisors.

For more information and upcoming sessions please contact Betsy Schenkel if you have any questions at 203-359-3220.
